The Adjutant General for the State of Nevada. As Adjutant General, he is the senior uniformed Nevada National Guard officer responsible for formulating, developing and coordinating all policies, programs and plans affecting more than 4,000 Nevada Army and Air National Guard personnel. Appointed by the Governor, State of Nevada, the Adjutant General serves as the Governor’s principal adviser on all National Guard issues.
Brig. Gen. Michael Hanifan is the assistant adjutant general of the Nevada Army Guard and assists the Adjutant General with administrative tasks within the organization. He has been the assistant adjutant general since 2017. He previously served as the commander of the Nevada Army Guard.
Brig. Gen. John M. Week serves as the Director of Joint Staff, Nevada National Guard. As the Director of Joint Staff, General Week manages the Nevada National Guard Joint Staff and joint military program operations throughout the state. He oversees joint staff operations supporting 4,300 Soldiers and Airmen serving in the Nevada National Guard. He is overall responsible for coordinating the Nevada National Guard support to civil authorities during domestic response operations. Brig. Gen. Week is the senior federal full-time National Guard management official and serves as principal executive assistant and advisor to the Adjutant General.
Commissioned in 1991 through the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tennessee, Brig. Gen Week has served in the ANG for over 39 years and served in numerous squadron and group level command positions. Brig. Gen. Week has deployed to Southwest Asia on three separate occasions leading C-130 maintenance operations in theatre. Prior to his current position, he was the 152d Mission Support Group’s Commander where he was responsible for directing all base support for 152d Airlift wing with eight C-130H3 Hercules aircraft, as well as the quality and quantity of training for over 350 personnel, ensuring they are prepared to perform the wing’s mission.
Col. Troy E. Armstrong succeeded Brig. Gen. Zachary Doser as the land component commander of the Nevada Army Guard in November 2020. In his position, he commands and oversees the more than 3,300 Soldiers in the Nevada Army Guard.
Command Chief Warrant Officer 5 James Baumann helps oversee the training, placement and manning of the warrant officers of the Nevada Army National Guard. Baumann was appointed the state command chief warrant officer of Nevada on Oct. 1, 2014. Prior to his assignment as the state command chief warrant officer, Baumann served as the deputy surface maintenance manager for the director of logistics. He has held various assignments to include equipment inspector, equipment specialist, Field Maintenance Shop supervisor and CSMS general foreman. He enlisted in the Nevada Army National Guard in 1986 and commissioned as a warrant officer in 1993.
As the state’s senior enlisted leader, he advises both The Adjutant General and the Commander of the Army Guard on all matters concerning enlisted Airmen, Soldiers and their family members. He advises senior leadership on a myriad of topics including: recruiting, retention, training, resiliency, family support, community events, education and employment for the state’s enlisted Airmen and Soldiers. He supports the directors of the Joint, Army and Air staffs with the management of the full time enlisted staff, including Active Guard and Reserve Soldiers and Airmen as well as military technicians.
Chief Master Sgt. James B. Lindsay is the State Command Chief for the Nevada Air National Guard. He is the principle advisor to the Adjutant General for all enlisted Air Guard issues and is responsible for matters influencing readiness, force development, health, morale and welfare for the more than 900 Airmen in the Nevada Guard and their families.
