New loading dock enhances logistics capabilities at Floyd Edsall Training Center

Nevada Army National Guard Installations & Environment Division

The Nevada Army National Guard’s G9 Installations team recently completed construction of a new loading dock at Floyd Edsall Training Center, expanding the facility’s logistics and transportation capabilities to better support mission operations and readiness. The G9 Installations team effectively leveraged funding sources to deliver the $420,000 project with a 75% federal and 25% state funding split.

"The successful completion of this project represents a continued commitment to modernize infrastructure in support of the installation’s operational requirements and long-term sustainability," said Sandor Duran, energy and project manager, Nevada Army National Guard Installations and Environmental Office.

The project addresses the facility’s need for improved infrastructure to accommodate delivery of military equipment, vehicles, cargo, and shipment handling. The new loading dock features a dual-height platform designed to support both rear and side loading configurations, providing greater operational flexibility and efficiency for a wide range of delivery trucks.

As part of the project, site access improvements were also completed to facilitate safe and efficient movement of all vehicle types, whether military, delivery or privately owned. These improvements included the removal of a median near the main gate intersection, to improve turning radius, and new swing gate to accommodate tractor-trailers and other large delivery vehicles.

The completed upgrades are expected to enhance logistical efficiency, improve safety, and reduce turnaround times for inbound and outbound deliveries.

Looking forward, future modernization projects for the Floyd Edsall Training Center include a building expansion to the Field Maintenance Shop 1 (FMS 1) and construction of a new track and field facility for the Army Fitness Test (AFT).

"All of this demonstrates an investment in mission readiness and training capability improvements for Nevada National Guardsmen," Duran said.
