State Command Chief Warrant Officer



Chief Warrant Officer 5 Steve Nielsen oversees the training, placement, and manning of the warrant officers of the Nevada Army Guard. 

After graduating from Carson High in 1994, he joined the Army on active duty as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Operations specialist at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Nielsen joined the Nevada Army National Guard in 1999 and deployed as a Chinook helicopter pilot to Afghanistan in 2005. In 2010, he deployed to support Operation New Horizons in Haiti. 

Nielsen has 28 years of military service and has held various assignments including Maintenance Test Pilot, Standardization Instructor Pilot, Instrument Examiner and State Aviation Safety Officer. Nielsen graduated flight school in 2004 as a CH-47 Chinook Pilot. During the previous biennium, Nielsen was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5 during a ceremony December of 2023 at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Stead.
