Nevada Guard set to support Clark County first responders during Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix

By Capt Emerson Marcus Nevada National Guard Joint Force Headquarters

In support of local emergency response agencies, about 80 Nevada National Guard Soldiers and Airmen will be activated on state orders in Clark County from November 20-24 to bolster security and emergency response capabilities during the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. This is the second year the Nevada National Guard has been called to support first responders in Clark County for the race that is expected to bring close to 300,000 people to the Las Vegas Valley.

The deployment will encompass strategic locations, including the Las Vegas Strip and two hospitals within the metropolitan areas. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the potential consequences of any security threat or emergency incident that may arise during the race.

“The activation underlines our ongoing partnership between the Nevada National Guard and local emergency response agencies, showcasing their commitment to public safety and effective collaboration to ensure a safe, largescale sporting event such as the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix,” said Col. Kyle Cerfoglio, Nevada National Guard Joint Staff Director.

The Nevada National Guard supports a dual federal and state mission. One is in support of the President of the United States when service members are called into active duty service or Title 10 orders. These orders are federal and are usually in support of overseas federal contingency efforts, such as the Nevada Army National Guard's recent deployments to the Middle East (17th Sustainment Brigade).

The state mission usually is in response to domestic natural or man-made disasters in Nevada or the U.S., such as the activation for Hurricane Hilary response or wildland firefighting, or proactive measures during large public events, such as annual New Year’s Eve celebration, the Super Bowl earlier this year and Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
